Presenter: Shelley Steenrod, Ph.D., LICSW is a substance abuse and addictions specialist with clinical, policy, and academic credentials. Rebecca G. Mirick, Ph.D., LICSW is a licensed clinical social worker.  

Description: This workshop will describe the impact of opioid use disorders on children, parents and grandparents.   We will look specifically at attachment across the developmental span of childhood, highlighting research about opioid use disorders, parenting, and attachment. Identification, attachment assessment tools, and empirical research on attachment-based interventions will be shared and discussed.

Workshop Objectives: Following this training, workshop participants will be able to:

  1. Understand, describe and identify opioid use disorders.
  2. Conceptualize the relationship between opioid use and attachment disorders.
  3. Demonstrate knowledge of best practices for attachment interventions in families with substance use disorders.
